Marshall Light Studio – Frances Marshall

Born in Hungary and based in Ireland, he trained at the National Opera Studio in London and was a Young Associate Artist with the Opera Theatre Company in Dublin. Winner of awards and bursaries, he also worked with Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera and with Irish Youth Opera. He joined the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera Covent Garden where he performed and covered many roles and was invited to join them in their summer concert for excerpts of Don Carlos as Rodrigue and as Ford Falstaff. He went on to make his debut with the Komische Oper in Berlin as the Gypsy The Fair at Sorochyntsi, appeared in the title role of Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria for Opera Collective Ireland and was invited back to the Royal Opera, Covent Garden for Schaunard La Boheme in the main season. He made his role debut as Escamillo Carmen for Opera North and returned to the Royal Opera Covent Garden to sing Sharpless Madama Butterfly in both summer and autumn seasons. He appeared as both Leuthold and the title role of William Tell for Irish National Opera and made his very successful house and role debut as Urok Manru for Opéra National de Lorraine. He sang both the roles of Alfio Cavalleria Rusticana and Tonio I Pagliacci in concert for the Cambridge Philharmonic Orchestra, returned to Irish National Opera for Valentin Faust and made his role debut as Rigoletto for Fundacion Excelentia in both Madrid and San Sebastian. At Irish National Opera he returned to repeat Schaunard La Boheme, appeared at Wexford Festival Opera as Leicester The Critic and for the Hungarian State Opera sang a series of staged performances of Carmina Burana. He appeared as Don Magnifico Cenerentola with Opéra National de Lorraine, Opéra de Rouen, Théâtre de Caen and Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, returned to Fundacion Excelentia for his first Scarpia Tosca, appeared as Alfio Cavalleria Rusticana for Dorset Opera Festival and sang Escamillo Carmen for the National Symphony Orchestra in Dublin.
