Biography
Canadian lirico-spinto soprano Mikayla Sager began her musical journey at the Manhattan School of Music before joining the Adler Fellowship at San Francisco Opera.
Competitions include 2024 Tenor Viñas Competition (Semi-finalist); 2022 Maria Manetti-Shrem Prize (Winner); 2021 Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonygne Foundation’s Elizabeth Connell Competition (Winner); Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition (Finalist); Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (District Winner); Vienna International Music Competition (Second place); National Opera Association’s Carolyn Bailey and Dominick Argento Competition (Finalist); Zenith Opera Competition (Semi-Finalist), and Opera Index (Finalist).
As an Adler Fellow, she appeared as Mimì La Bohème, Inez Il Trovatore, Der Hüter der schwelle des Tempels Die Frau ohne Schatten, Kate Pinkerton Madama Butterfly, Image No. 1 El ultimo sueño de Frida y Diego, Giannetta L’Elisir d’amore, and covered Violetta La Traviata and Donna Elvira Don Giovanni. Roles performed include Violetta La Traviata, Fiordiligi Così Fan Tutte, Vitellia La Clemenza di Tito, Micaëla Carmen, Donna Anna Don Giovanni, The Fox Cunning Little Vixen. Major covers include Title role Anna Bolena and Donna Anna Don Giovanni. Sager was scheduled to perform Contessa Le Nozze di Figaro as a part of the Merola Opera Program in 2020 which was cancelled owing to the Covid pandemic. Recently, she sang Mimi La Boheme with Opera San Jose. Concert and oratorio work includes Beethoven Ah, perfido!, Poulenc Stabat Mater, Verdi Messa da Requiem.
She will return to Opera San José for Violetta La Traviata and to make her debut as Nedda I Pagliacci.
