Soprano
Biography
Born in Russia she obtained a degree in History at the University of Armavir whilst studying singing. She went on to complete her musical education at the Rimski-Korsakov Conservatory in St Petersburg, attended the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden and took part in the Elena Obraztsova international Competition, winning third prize. She attended the Salzburg Young Singers’ Project, appearing in the final concert at the Mozarteum under the direction of Ivor Bolton. She won second prize in the International Opera singing Competition in St Petersburg, studying at the same time with Raúl Giménez. Ekaterina’s debut was as Adina L’Elisir D’amore at the Mikhailovsky Theater in St. Petersburg repeating the role in the same production at the Bolshoi Theatre. Out of Russia her very successful debut was as Violetta La Traviata at L’Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Liège and she has gone on to appear on the international circuit at some of the worlds most distinguished theatres, including La Scala Milan, ROH Covent Garden, Wiener Staatsoper and the Bayerische Staatsoper. Recent engagements include her role debut as Amina La Sonnambula at Teatro Regio, Torino and she appeared in the role of Gilda Rigoletto at the Bregenzer Festspiele and Berlin’s Komische Oper. For Opera Australia she made both her role and house debut as La Contessa Le Nozze di Figaro with great success.
Debut at Opera Australia
….while the Russian soprano Ekaterina Sadovnikova is a glorious Countess,
The Daily Telegraph – Sue Williams – 22nd October 2019
The moments of gorgeous female singing, though, were not limited to Alleaume. Ekaterina Sadovnikova sang the Countess with remarkable clarity and assurance in line and phrasing. Her Countess had a patient poise – a wonderful contrast to Alleaume’s light-footed Susanna – creating a touching depiction of a dignified woman struggling under the weight of her husband’s infidelity.
Bachtrack – Chantal Nguyen – 21st October 2019
In her company debut, Russian soprano Ekaterina Sadovnikova displayed a lovely, silvery timbre in the role of the Countess. She spun sumptuous, creamy lines in Porgi amor, with her Dove sono no less sublime. Not only a deeply felt, wistful remembrance of things past, the soprano also communicated the Countess’ sorrow and shame over her husband’s conduct. The Letter Duet with Alleaume was yet another time-stopping moment of vocal beauty, as was her forgiveness of the Count, simply and exquisitely done.
Limelight – Justine Nguyen – 19th October, 2019
By contrast, Ekaterina Sadovnikova as the Countess had classic poise with polished tone and formal phrasing in her two arias of noble sorrow in acts two and three. Yet this did not prevent her voice from blending and complementing others in ensembles and in the Letter Duet she and Allaume came together in ribbons of light golden hue.
WA Today – Peter McCallum – 21st October 2019
